Developers bring Gannets to its new neighbourhood Middlebeck

A popular independent café is set to open a second venue at Newark’s newest neighbourhood, Middlebeck, Urban&Civic has announced.

Located in the heart of the growing community, the new addition will be run by the team behind Newark’s much-loved town centre venue, Gannets Daycafe and Bistro, and is expected to open its doors in October.

Gannets Middlebeck comes as part of master developer Urban&Civic’s plans to create a community hub at the gateway of the Middlebeck, which in the future will also feature shops and a host of amenities right on the doorstep of residents.

The café will offer an extensive menu of homemade breakfast and lunch dishes, as well as sweet treats, using locally sourced, seasonal ingredients where possible.

There will also be a range of daily specials, plus a selection of gluten free, vegetarian and vegan options. For those looking to grab a bite on the go, the café will also offer all items on its menu to take away.

The new venue, which comes as Gannets celebrates its 40th anniversary in Newark, will boast a contemporary, urban design, and will seat approximately 30 diners.

Johanne Thomas, Communities and Partnerships for Urban&Civic said: “We are delighted to reveal details of Middlebeck’s new eatery, Gannets. We are passionate about supporting local businesses, and are delighted to welcome Gannets, a much-loved, well-established venue, which shares our approach to quality.

“We are committed to creating a neighbourhood with a host of first-class facilities at its heart, from our primary school opening in September 2021 and café to extensive green spaces, and we are certain Gannets will become a focal point of Middlebeck’s growing community, as well as the wider Newark area,” she added.

Neil Stevens, owner of Gannets Café, added: “As a family run business, we are passionate about offering our guests the very best experience with every visit, and will serve residents a fantastic selection of fresh, homemade dishes with a smile.

“As we are celebrating our 40th year in Newark this year, opening a new venue in Middlebeck is the perfect way to mark the occasion. We are very much looking forward to working with Urban&Civic and becoming part of the new community as Middlebeck continues to grow and flourish.”

With five stunning show homes available two view, prospective homebuyers can choose from a range of three, four and five-bedroom homes from two quality housebuilders, Avant Homes and Bellway Homes.

Once complete, Middlebeck will boast a new primary school, a shop, a café, significant green infrastructure including a waterside promenade, walkways and cycleways, and formal open space and sports pitches, as well as over 3,000 new homes.

Formally known as Land South of Newark, Middlebeck is a 694-acre urban extension on the southern edge of the town.
